College Football Playoff Storylines

The games will be simulated using NCAA College Football 2008 on the Playstation 3, and results, storylines, and statistics will be posted here on this site on the day the actual game would have taken place if this system were in place. This is intended to be a display of how things would be, if this playoff system were in place. Instead of waiting around watching late season NFL games, we'd be focusing on West Virginia at Ohio State, Florida at Georgia, USC at LSU, and Missouri at Virginia Tech with each winner moving on to the Final Four.

All simulated games will be played in the home stadium of the higher seeded team, and will be played in the actual weather that the host city experiences on that very day, thanks to the new Weather Channel feature on Playstation 3. In other words, this is intended to be a close to the real thing as possible, just as if it were really happening.

Missouri 20     Arizona State 14     Final

As expected, this game came down to the very end as Arizona State had two chances to tie or win within the last minute but was not able to convert on 4th down plays. The first half was a struggle with several three and out possessions from both teams before Arizona State struck with a 20 yard touchdown pass from Rudy Carpenter to Ryan Torain. Missouri responded just before halftime with a Chase Daniel 4 yard touchdown run. Missouri took the opening kickoff in the second half into field goal territory where they were able to convert a 37 yard try to take a 10-7 lead. Arizona State tried to tie with a long 57 yard attempt that fell short. On the very next play, Chase Daniel hit Jared Perry with a 60 yard touchdown pass to put Mizzou up 17-7 going into the 4th quarter. Arizona State added another touchdown midway through the 4th quarter with another touchdown pass, this one to Rudy Burgess. But the Sun Devils couldn't get any closer as the two failed 4th down conversions, wrapped around a 41 yard field goal for Missouri, sealed their fate on their 2007 college football playoffs.

Dan LeFevour threw a 17 yard touchdown strike to WR Jemmy Jasmin to give the Chippewas a 14-13 lead going into the break, but fumbled the second half kickoff to give LSU solid field position that allowed Matt Flynn to throw to Trindon Holiday for one of his five TD passes on the night that gave LSU a lead they would not relinquish. Flynn finished with 417 yards passing through the air as LSU could not be stopped in the second half.

A 17 yard John David Booty touchdown pass to Patrick Turner tied the score at 7 on USC's first possession, and then a methodical running game controlled the tempo for the Trojans, pounding out 235 yards on 49 carries, with Chauncey Washington leading the way with 100 of those yards on 20 carries.

Georgia 22    BYU 19      Final

The 5th seeded Bulldogs beat B.Y.U. in this battle in Athens, Georgia in a classic playoff battle. Max Hall's fumble inside the BYU 5 yard line with 2:00 helped Georgia score the winning touchdown on a 5 yard pass from Matthew Stafford to AJ Bryant, erasing BYU's 19-14 lead. After converting the two point conversion, BYU had one last chance to tie or win, and moved the ball to Georgia's 36 yard line before a crucal sack moved them out of field goal range. One last shot at the end zone fell incomplete, allowing Georgia to advance to play a home game against SEC rival Florida next week.
