I'd like to think that my plan posted has resolved the bowl questions, as every team that is currently in a bowl game will still be in a bowl game, most even in the same bowl game. The bowl games would still be played the same days they are now, with the exception of those during the same time as the playoff games that would move to accomodate TV. With my plan, there is still lots of football on New Year's Day, the bowl season still gives people a chance to follow their team to a meaningless exhibition that is the bowl game - but we also have important games and a chance to settle the championship on the field. This is similar to the basketball tournament and NIT, with the bowl games being a much more popular version of the NIT. There would be so much money around for this plan, I don't know how it hasn't already been accepted and implemented. I don't see, and have never received a comment pointing out, any flaw in my proposed system. Thank you for the comment Bobby. Imagine if you will this promo "Welcome to ESPN Bowl Week, where EVERY game counts!" thats right every game, The human element of even picking at-large teams is gone. The plan: for starters, same as yours (11 conference champs receive auto bids to the NCS-National Championship Series)...and 5 at-large bids are awarded. These at-large bids are obtained by A) getting a bowl-bid, B)winning bowl game, and C)after winning bowl game during the one week bowl season a ball is placed with school logo in a lottery pool. 5 RANDOM bowl winners are selected in the NCS Lottery selection show to conclude bowl week. Thus, rather than a playoff format de-emphasizing the bowl tradition, it RE-emphasizes the importance and the honor of reaching them.
